WARNING ABOUT ALPHA BLOCKERS

Post by webslave »

When you take your first dose of an alpha blocker, do not drive! It takes a few days to get used to the effects of the drug, and the first few doses are extremely disorienting. This is one drug that will mess up your ability to drive!

Really? I've had absolutely no problems in that regard with Flomax, Cardura or Xatral in modified release versions.

Every single webpage on Flomax, for instance, has this warning:
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Flomax may cause dizziness. If you experience dizziness, avoid these activities. Dizziness is most likely to occur at the start of therapy and when rising from a sitting or lying position. Use caution and rise slowly to avoid falling. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase dizziness caused by Flomax.
When I tried it in 2002, I almost had a bad auto crash.

It is often advised that a-blockers should be taken before bedtime. That's probably the best regimen. It's how I always take Xatral.

It certainly makes sense to read the instructions that come with any medication, but why the sudden WARNING ABOUT ALPHA BLOCKERS Mark?

It just struck me that the site talks about them and people keep saying they're about to try them, but I remember nearly getting killed the first day I took them. I guess I just want people to be very cautious when they start taking them. IOW, I don't want someone coming here, getting the idea to take alpha blockers, grabbing some his friend/dad/brother has, and getting killed.

Xatral VS Flomax,

Xatral: Alfuzosin is an orally active quinazoline derivative. It is a selective, peripherally acting antagonist of postsynaptic alpha-1-adrenoceptors.
In vitro pharmacological studies have documented the selectivity of alfuzosin for the alpha-1-adrenoreceptors located in the prostate, bladder base and prostatic urethra.

Flomax: Tamsulosin binds selectively and competitively to postsynaptic alpha1-receptors, in particular to the subtype alpha1A, which bring about relaxation of the smooth muscle of the prostate, whereby tension is reduced.
