Is this SNAKE OIL or a BENEFICIAL SUPPLEMENT

Post by elitynski »

I'm not well-versed in supplements so I was wondering if this product sounds more like snake oil or a good supplement.

Some veterans or mark may be able to weigh in on this.

The link is here http://fsphealth.co.za/content/ultimate ... te-defence

These are some of the things that are in the supplement:

Super-concentrated Serenoa Repens
Urtica dioica
protective phytosterols
Selenium’
Zinc (which I've read guys on here take)
Vitamin E
Lycopene

There looks to be some science behind the ingredients but the website is very similar to others that sell supplements of dubious benefit. I could never buy from a website like that, it sets my alarm bells ringing. I would like to see much more independent research before I parted with any money.
Age 40. Symptoms started Feb 2011 but for a number of years before sometimes had burning pain after ejaculation for 30mins or so. Initially testicle discomfort, then bladder pain/urgency followed by penile discomfort and burning after urination. Used to have periods of being symptom free but now have continual penis discomfort, mainly at tip. During a flare pain is more of a burning type, especially after urination. 3 negative urine tests, cystoscopy, ultrasound of kidneys/bladder all negative. Urologist never gave me anitbiotics or suspected prostate infection but couldn't find out what was wrong. Helped by rest, heat (sauna/hot bath). Just started on amitriptyline, no benefit yet.

That was my thought too - but I didn't want to be dismissive if there was something to it.

Snake oil. Basically Saw Palmetto + some nutrients for men with BPH. Don't bother.
