U&F and PT

Hi all, new poster...just curious...I just started PT and this is probably my primary symptom...does PT and TP therapy help with this?

Some members have reported that urgency and frequency are helped by PT, specifically treating trigger points in and around the pelvis.

Are those generally through internal work? I'd have to say that it is by far the most painful and difficult symptom to live with...and I'd like to know that this will reduce itself over time..

I'm similar. One year down the line, relaxation has been the most helpful w/ this symptom. Pain has dramatically decreased and often goes away, and there are plenty of times when I feel totally normal.

When I first started healing I didn't find TP work to be very useful (for these symptoms). Mostly I'd feel worse and I gave it up entirely once frequency & urgency were the only major irritants. That's about when I began feeling a lot better (I had been doing lengthy relaxation sessions the whole time). Now the TP stuff doesn't bother me and sometimes helps, but not dramatically. I'll do it a couple times a month, maybe.

BTW I had the groin pain also. For me that was a trigger-point on my abdominals that I was able to release on my own and completely clear up in a matter of weeks. Was stunning to see that happen. Look for it.

Interesting. I've been suffering with this for about 6 months (since the first real flare), and I can't seem to do anything about the Urinary symptoms...I just started PT, thats why I ask about that...it seems like in the HITP there are a few trigger points that start this symptom, but maybe I'm wrong...

Anxiety took over in my case, after a while, and after I started feeling that no-one could help, this alone then could cause these probs.
Age: 25 Onset: 23. | Symptoms: Burning in urethra, urinary frequency/urgency, 'golf ball' in butt syndrome, muscle tension form pelvis to calves, constipation, IBS, testicular pain/inflam, bladder pain when nearly full, difficulty relaxing muscles (coccygeal, levator ani etc.), pain and muscles tension in anus/perineum. Helped by: quercetin, relaxation, baths, heat packs applied to perineum. Worsened by: Stress, driving, sitting, jogging, caffeine etc.

So I just wanted to give a quick update. I started PT about 6 weeks ago, and was doing really really well until last week, when the day after PT I got a huge flare up (not even sure what caused it), lasted all weekend long, and only yesterday did it start to go away. Is this normal? Granted, I've been a bit more stressed than usual, but I'm worried that suddenly the PT isn't working. help/thoughts?

It is always 2 steps forward, 1 step back, with this condition. You have to have reasonable and modest expectations, and accept setbacks calmly.

Another update...

So I've been doing the PT since May, and slowly but surely coming around. Every flare up has another few days in between, and the flare ups slowly get less and less intense. In fact, what I once called a "good day" I would now call a flare up. Pain has decreased significantly (before this condition, I thought EVERYONE had this kind of pain. How I lived with it for years I don't know), and just by simple stretching every day, I've done a lot of good work for myself.

One thing I noticed along with my PT is that for me a lot of my pain is in the lower back, and the use of those muscles is what really causes major flares. Anyone else get that too? It's been so much that she basically stopped treating the pelvic floor and spent most of her time looking for triggers in the lower back..and it seems to have been working.

The one thing that is disconcerting is the sexual side effects. Sometimes, after sex it feels terrible and I am in major pain, and get a flare up from that. Anyone have tips to prevent that from happening? Should I stretch before/after?

Hit a rut in my recovery

Hi all,

Haven't posted in a while, and I was hoping to get some support/help as to what to do next.

I began PT in May, and slowly the symptoms have been going away. Yes, there were flare ups here and there, but through stretching, breathing exercises, and keeping my stress levels down generally I was able to get into a pattern. Things were getting better to the point that my PT suggested that I begin coming in once every other week, because I was doing so well.

However, that all changed about 3 weeks ago, when I got a nasty flare up, which kept me up all night, and lasted for about 6 days. This nasty flare up seems to be entirely anxiety related, and has now occurred three times in the past month. All three times it's followed the same familiar pattern--horrible sleepless night with anxiety (sweating, chills, frequency), two not great days, then two-three horrible days. From June-August, I had about 6-7 good days for every 1-2 bad days..my bad days were getting to be like my good days before I began treatment. Now, I've had two good days in the past month. Clearly, I was not doing enough to reduce my anxiety. My PT said I should start seeing a therapist. Any suggestions in the DC area?

Anything else I can/should be doing? While I understand that going to Dr. Wise's clinic would probably be most helpful, it's not realistic financially. Thanks in advance!

If someone could respond that'd be great.

SO I went to my uro for my 6 month check up, and, for the first time, he mentioned to me that me having a inguinal hernia (which appeared as a bulge about 6-8 weeks before the symptoms started) might be the primary cause of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms. I had it operated on last Monday, and so far, a lot of the pain symptoms have already gone away or been reduced significantly, but the urinary symptoms haven't at all yet. How long does this process take? I've had the hernia for about 16 months, so I know this might take time. Anyone else have a similar experience?

The paid caused by the hernia goosed all the pelvic nerves and led to the urinary symptoms. As I said in recent threads, this can cause allodynia and pain wind-up (central pain sensitization) that could take a while to unwind.

In the meantime, while I am "waiting" for this to resolve itself, would you suggest continuing the PT? What other treatments might be helpful?
