Therapy Question

Post by frozentundra24 »

I feel blessed to have been referred to physical therapy and have had three sessions now....I am willing to be patient. The bizarre thing is some things are getting better while other symptoms are worsening....I asked the therapist if I had any trigger points and she said basically the whole muscle was a trigger point.....I have realized that I had been unconsciously clenching my rectal muscles all the time, and am progressively learning how to relax them...

For those who have gone through therapy, how long before you experienced positive lasting results, and did things get worse before they got better?. For example, I have never had flow issues, now that I have started the therapy I have stop and start stream and a weak stream and trouble starting it occasionally...If the pain was gone I could live with all of those symptoms and not think twice about it, but I find it interesting it started up after therapy...

I find valium helps some, but I would just as soon not take any medications. Did you continue taking valium or muscle relaxants while going through the therapy?

Also in regards to exercise, she couldnt really give me an answer if that is better or worse for the condition. What have your experiences been?...Its been a year now, I wish the doctor train had sent me to therapy earlier but I guess I got in earlier than a lot of people have.
Age:38 | Onset Age:37 | Symptoms: Pain primarily in right testicle, greatly worsened after urination although recently whole scrotum feels inflamed again..no urinary issues..this is my third and longest bout in last 8 years...Never have burning in urethra after urination but scrotum and rectum will feel inflamed afterwards.
Helped by: Warmth, walking, valium some, hydrocodone sometimes helps
Worsened by: Sitting, pain day after sex, bowel movements, sugary foods, seemingly ibuprofen and advil?...supplements like vitamin d, quercetin, saw palmetto cause worse pain, certain antibiotics make pain much worse as well.

For what it's worth, when I first entered into physical therapy, my PT said the experience would be like peeling an onion. You deal with one layer, and then the one underneath becomes more prominent. To answer your question about medications, I couldn't have therapy without them, I was so tight. I continue to take a muscle relaxant as part of my overall pain management cocktail, but every case is different.

In my experience, exercise is better if it's not overly demanding, particularly on the pelvis. Walking a reasonable distance is good. Swimming is good. Bench pressing 300lbs to build your monster muscles, not so much.
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Testicular pain, perineum pain, burning/irritative urination, extended pain after ejaculation. Occasionally, some allodynia or ache in the coccyx/sacrum/thigh/buttocks/legs. Diagnosis: Pelvic floor dysfunction, degenerated lumbar disk, and mildly herniated lumbar disk. Helped By: Physical therapy, pain management doctor, hot baths, therapy pool, stretching regimen, breathing exercises, relaxation, distraction. I'm three weeks into therapy and haven't felt any relief yet. But my schedule of actually getting to the therapist has been indefensibly screwed up, so... meh.
