probiotics

Post by BrettP »

Anyone have any luck treating IBS with probiotics or any other supplement? Or do they do more harm than good?
Good to go!

I experienced a lot of help from taking probiotics. I think all the antibiotics I took in the beginning wrecked my system and gave me the food intolerances I deal with now. eating yogurt after I have accidentally eaten a food I am now intolerant to calms the flare down considerably. My guess is that it has something to do with the enzymes in the yogurt helping to break down the food that my body now struggles with. It might be that the antibiotics knocked out my ability to produce the proper enzymes or something. This is all speculation but needless to say probiotics in the form of natural yogurt have had noticeable effects while probiotics in pill form have had less of an effect for me.

I think probiotics in general are a good thing. The problem is finding the right one that works for you. A few years back, I had digestive issues (2005-2006), which were not resolved by my GI doctor until he placed me on a probiotic (and symax duotab helped initially with the stomach pain). It was a bit pricey at a $1 a day, so I started trying other "non Doctor" recommended brands until I found one that worked well. It was significantly lower in cost and just as effective. I still take it daily.

Not sure I was allowed to  Didn't want to "advertise" for one specific brand. But the initial probiotic I took was suggested by my GI doctor and it by Proctor and Gamble: Align GI (http://www.aligngi.com). I thought it worked great, but I also believe most doctor's offices are corrupted by those beautiful pharmaceuticals sales women. Ok maybe not the women, but definitely the money ($1 a day basically for this - available at Walgreens, CVS, or order online from the above link). So I tried a bunch of others like Jarrows and such and settled on one that did not need to be refrigerated and I am currently taking one by a company called Nature's Secret (http://www.naturessecret.com). It is a one-a-day caplets and has worked well for me. Price is like $18.00 for 45 caplets. Like most pharmaceuticals members try, each one affects us differently, so I would suggest sampling one until you find one that works.

Hope this helps all.....

I take lots of supplements, should I not take Probiotics at the same time as the other ones? Will they absorb any differently if I do?
