Annual Update from NoMoPain

Post by NoMoPain »

Hi Everyone,

I am stil doing pretty good since my last post over a year ago. Still pain free all the time, most nights only get up once to pee. I would say maybe 3% of the time I might feel a little tightness or tension, but not too bad.

I still use the wand about 1 or times per month on average. Sex is very fun and pleasurable again, as it was not for a long time. The wand keeps everything loose down there. I don't do any paradoxical relaxation at all, and have not for years. I excercise with weights, treadmill, and heavy bag boxing 3 times per week.

For years I suffered with this stuff but I have to say it is not hardly an issue at all anymore. Life has given me other challenges like trying to make my marriage work, raising two kids, and dealing a boss on my job that is like Dr Jekkyl and Mr Hide. I still do the Byron Katie stuff sometimes, as that is very helpful with anything stressful.

If anyone wants to talk to me, I would never turn them down. My time is pretty tight nowadays with raising the two kids, but I am still available for anyone who might want to talk and get some support (it might take me several days to reply, but I will try to check messages twice a week).

Hi Coppertop and Scotsman,

Coppertop,

My initial symptoms were just about everything you can imagine with this condition - pain in butt, pain in groin, increased pain after sex, increased urinary frequency etc.. Of course with all this came a lot of anxiety and depression.

What I did to overcome it was the standard Wise Protocol - lots of physical therapy, lots of relaxation, and lots of Byron Katie work. My wife also learned the PT aspect. I think that by me learning how to use the wand on myself was very beneficial and empowering - it gave me a sense of having some control over this. I also saw an excellent cognitive therapist to assist me in stress reduction. I noticed the strong connection between stress and symptoms.

All in all, I would say it took me about 2 years before I consistently felt good most of the time and started to feel a reasonable level of confidence that I would overcome this.

Regards,

What are the wrong exercises for you? I stay away from abdominal exercises and leg pressese like squats?
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Tony,

That's great, these posts do help some of us who are still suffering from pain. It is even more meaningful from someone who has suffered greatly from this condition, I remember reading many of your older posts and you appeared to have been through a lot, emotionally and physically.

I mean if you can get well after having this for over a decade, there is no doubt that many of us who have had this for far less can get better. I used think the longer I had this the greater the chances I would have it forever. You have no idea what a positive effect well written post has on my state of mind. Even though I still have been feeling better, I am far from where I want to be, and I still have a few success stories next to my bed to read when the catastrophizing takes hold.

Another positive point is that it took you about 2 years to become pain free after the clinic, so I get the feeling that its 'okay" that I'm not in the same position yet because I am only a 1 year vet.

Please keep up with the updates, it probably only takes 10 minutes to write but it gives lasting hope to many members.

Thanks Again
G

Hi guys,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you on this.

Calguy,
The WRONG kind of exercises for me are biking or anything that puts a tremendous strain on the pelvic floor muscles. My PT showed one exercise that I do to strengthen my abs without causing strain on the pelvic floor (I have been doing it for years with no problem). Otherwise I would stay away from crunches and sit-ups. I have no problem with the idea of never riding a bike again too. Oddly enough I have no problem with doing squats at all - been doing them with heavy weight for many years and no problem. But I was advised by my PT do never do hamstring curls so I stay away from those.

GMCcormack,
I am glad to help in any way I can.

Nomopain.

NoMoPain what are the exercises that stregthen abs but dont put pressure on the pelvic floor?
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.
