1.5 weeks on doxazosin and feeling better!

Post by kidoairaku »

Hello all,

I just wanted to say that being a week on doxazosin has cleared up my symptoms 40-50 percent. This includes now non-painful ejaculations, less urine frequency and stronger stream, no more chronic ache in perineum and more energy overall. So, I have a question. What is it about this drug that is making me feel better? What else should I do, or combine it with, to have further relief? Thanks and good luck everyone.

doxazosin's effect wearing out

Post by kidoairaku »

Hello all,

I am 20 days in on my doxazosin prescription and I'm noticing its effectiveness is starting to wear off a bit. It had reduced my symptoms by half at its peak. I was wondering if I should try another alpha blocker or maybe stop taking it for a while and start back again later. Also, would it be advised to take a muscle relaxant before bed despite being on the alpha blocker? What about taking Quercetin? Any answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone, I wish you all the best.
Age: 24. Onset: May 2007. | Symptoms: OFTEN -- Urine frequency, waxing/waning perineum discomfort (aching), abdomen pain/cramp w/ pressure, painful ejaculations, loose stools; OCCASIONALLY -- cloudy urine, IBS flareups, nocturia; RARELY -- night sweats, blood in urine, passing small dark brown stones. Helps: Alpha blocker, hot baths, relaxing abdomen and pelvic muslces, sitting or laying down. Besides my alpha blocker prescription, I have yet to see a therapist for this. I hope that with treatment I will be able to rid myself of this.

The improvement from the alpha blocker may have been the placebo effect (common). Definitely give any accredited quercetin product a go.

I doubt it was a placebo effect (I was skeptical about them throughout my treatment). Anyway, I hadnt felt such a drastic change in symptoms since my prostatitis/CPPS big flare up late last year. It really has helped a lot, even my mild IBS. I think its clearly the relaxing of the muscles that is making me feel better. However, I've been noticing a slow dip in its effectiveness as of recent. Maybe its due to extra stress at school and a cold though. Anyway, I havent taken any physical measures to counteract my CPPS; i need to see a PT. I ordered the headache in the pelvis book and its on its way. I definitely will give the any accredited quercetin product a try too, as long as its safe to take with an alpha blocker. What other meds are there that have a muscle relaxing affect for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sufferers? I was taking Soma before the A.B., which helped me a little at night.

Thanks for the reply Webslave.

Quercetin safe with a-blockers.

You can read my starter list to help get you in the right direction....

Alpha blockers are of no use...Believe me, I took them needlessly for over a year and it did nothing to ease the discomfort from UCPPS... :)
I am not a medical doctor. Please fill out your signature (click here) ☼ ☼ My Starter List for new members
I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Yea, maybe I'll skip on the alpha blockers after this prescription runs out. Thanks for the info Webslave, I'll check up on those meds if possible. Also, thanks to carld --your list is good! I wish I had more time and money to devote to healing myself, but I'm busy with school and work right now. However, I'm really not as bad as some of the others are here, thankfully. Regardless, thank you everyone for answering my Qs, it means sooooooooo much to me.

Never give up hope, ciao!
