Anxiety and symptoms

Post by graeme »

Dr Baranowksi is one of the leading specialists in the UK on pelvic pain, his view is that much chronic pain is caused by anxiety as we already know but you may find this list illuminating: :o
  • ringing and whistling in the ears
  • headaches
  • dizziness
  • light headed
  • blurred vision
  • face feels cold like marble
  • dry mouth
  • dry throat
  • hard to swallow
  • aching neck and shoulders
  • heart palpitations
  • chest pains
  • tension in stomach
  • indigestion
  • butterflies in stomach
  • rolling stomach
  • diarrhoea
  • needing to pass water frequently
  • wobbly/jelly legs
  • legs of iron
  • restless legs
  • pins and needles feeling in legs and arms
  • sweating/perspiration
  • feeling flushed - going red
  • tiredness/exhaustion
  • sleeping difficulties
Note : anxiety triggers a series of actual and measurable changes in the body which in turn cause the nervous system to start generating pain signals even when the original cause of the pain has gone
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

One of the things I'm working on is changing my brain mode. I often go in search of something to worry about my mind drifts. I'm used to worry and automatically look for anything even if its out of my hands. That state is normal to me and I am just trying to be relaxed and let things be without pondering.

I am at this moment having a nasty arm trembling ear ringing anxiety attack from work. Those symptoms are the truth. Great post. Made me feel better knowing I'm not going mad and it's just the anxiety.
Good to go!

A quick note. Feeling better... Phew. I did some stretching and that seemed to help alleviate some of the anxiety. If you haven't yet tried that do it. The deep breathing and muscle stretching really do help anxiety.

Check out the logic I have listed below regarding anxiety:

1. Anxiety is probably the single biggest cause of pelvic pain. This assertion comes not just from my own opinion, but also from my Physical Therpist who has about 15 years of pelvic therapy experience.

2. There is ample empirical studies that demonstrate that some form of Cognitive Therapy is extremely effective for significantly reducing anxiety. In fact, many of these studies show Cognitive Therapy to be more effective at reducing anxiety than Valium (my own personal experience supports this).

3. It follows that any pelvic pain sufferer should strongly consider a REGULAR practice of some form of Cognitive Therapy.

Most of you already know that on a personal level I strongly endorse the Cognitive work of Byron Katie, but there are other forms that are effective also. I have said it before and I will say it again here that I strongly believe that the most effective way to recover from stress and pelvic pain is a combination of learning how to do trigger point work on yourself in conjunction with some form of Cognitive therapy. O

It is those extremely stressful thoughts (often times we are not even aware of these) that can cause more suffering both physically and mentally. We already know that these stressful thoughts cause REAL physiological changes in the body and act to increase pain levels by increasing electrical activity within the trigger points. It is precisely Cognitive Therapy that best deals with those stressful thoughts.

NoMoPain, fantastic post...I couldn't agree more..

I have done extensive cognitive work to control my anxiety and panic attacks through neurofeedback and other forms of relaxation/stretching...

Self internal/external PT falls in line with the above mentioned...
