Cystoscope?
Cystoscope?
I have been wondering about this procedure. I've had other prostatitis pains in the pass but the real only thing affecting me now is urgency / burning in urethra also apparently during sex seems to be irritated/stimulated instantly. Is it possible it could be from a urethra obstruction? I was thinking about cystoscope kind of scares me and sounds horrifying. But does this sound like I should do this?
Another thing I have that I'm not sure is related... is I have a cyst in the skin under the urethra. Just a hard bump basically. Had this for a long before prostatitis, could this cause urethra problems?

Re: Cystocsope?
Cystocsope can rule out other things in my case left me in a bad flare up which even woke me out of the annestheticTJ88 wrote:I have been wondering about this procedure. Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me
I was told to have one and urodynamics but I wasn't too keen and got a second opinion from another urologist who advised against it. I didn't have one done in the end, have a read of the section in HITP and you will read about how painful this procedure is, and how useless it is for diagnosing prostatitis. Infact, for some people it makes the condition worse.
Instead, I had an x-ray done initially, then had ultrasound with a full bladder, and without, and a prostate finger exam. Also had lots of urine tests done etc.
Personally, I wouldnt have one done, but if you are concerned about "other" medical issues which may be the cause, then it may be worth while. I knew what I had from the symptoms. My frequent urination disappeared at night in bed, and with red wine, so I knew I didn't have any obstruction.

Age: 33 | Onset Age: 32 Initial Symptoms: Frequent urination Current Symptoms: The odd feeling of frequency but not much else Helped By: Not thinking about it, hot bath, red wine, light exercise, Bowen technique seems to help, getting on with my life Worsened By: catastrophic thinking, worrying things will get worse, feeling depressed, reading websites too often! Work! Sitting in work all day isn't good!! Current Progress : Since 1st Sept 08, no pain!!! :)
I've had it done and although it didn't affect me too much, it didn't turn anything up (as expected).

a simply useless procedure
Age: 43 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: previously: constant urgency, premature ejaculation, burning at tip of penis, pelvic ache current: semi annual flares. | Helped By: PT, yoga, stretch, keeping warm(long johns) boxer briefs, regular sleep routine | Worsened By: cystoscopy, antibiotics (fluoroquinolones) alcohol, coffee, stress, masturbation, cold
I had one done to rule out any serious conditions. It was more for peace of mind. That far exceeded the discomfort for a day. I was already in discomfort, so what's a little more when you already feel the burning pain.
Once I was cleared I was able to really focus on the protocol and my recovery started from there really.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Yeah: I had one, but with an anaesthetic it was painless. I even watched the screen. It showed no abnormality, but that is a useful finding in itself.
Age: 71; age at onset: 65; symptoms: initially rectal spasms; currently anal pain, pereneal pain, buttock pain; all pain on the right side; early diagnosis: chronic non bacterial prostatitis; treatments 4 long courses of antibiotics, accupuncture, naturopathy; current treatments: gabapentin, terasozin, Celeza, PT.
Good point. If I recall, I didn't have an actual medical diagnosis until the results of the cystoscopy came back. Amazingly.carld wrote:Once I was cleared I was able to really focus on the protocol and my recovery started from there really.

You could have your Uro do a flowrate test. Basically pee into a container that is part of a machine that measures the flow. If you have a good flow rate vs bad flow rate it can be used to determine if there is an obstruction. It is non-invasive.
By the way I have had the cysto a few times. It was not too bad. I think most people build up fear because of the type of proceedure. I have heard bad things about how uncomfortable the non flexable scopes are, but I think most Uros now use the flexible type which is relatively painless.
