I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I can't help responding to this one: I dealt with irritable bowel syndrome for about 10 years, got that under comtrol, then went on to OCN for 7years, and then, when I finally learned how to control that, the CP started. CPP/prostatitis has been with me for 8 years. I don't obsess any more though: just keep working towards reducing or eliminating the pain and, as much as I can, enjoying what I have.
Age: 71; age at onset: 65; symptoms: initially rectal spasms; currently anal pain, pereneal pain, buttock pain; all pain on the right side; early diagnosis: chronic non bacterial prostatitis; treatments 4 long courses of antibiotics, accupuncture, naturopathy; current treatments: gabapentin, terasozin, Celeza, PT.
Good on you dude.

Wow - chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome can be the cruelest lesson in a mans life. It can force you to sort out al the emotional / health / stress crap you have dealt with for years! For the last 2 years I have done neurofeedback to monitor my brain waves because of years of anxiety and panic attacks. When I started the program, my brain waves were all over the map spiking real high. Just last night I did a session. My brain waves are smoothe and as my therapist joked with me and said I was a zen master now. At this time, my symptoms are very manageable and continuing to get better. Hence the connection between my anxiety under control and my symptoms of CP/CPPS being improved to 90% better from this time last year is no coincidence to me....So get control of the anxiety by stretching and deep breathing and over all stress reduction, you will then reduce the neurogenic inflammation thats associated with our condition.
Age: 29 | Onset Age: 26 | Symptoms: initially severe burning throughout pelvis - much better; muscles spasms all over region, back pain, chronic IBS (much better) | Helped By: Psychotherapy, SP stretches, swimming, accepting the condition (understanding there is treatment); stress/anxiety management; possibly basic quercetin; valerian root, vit B & calc & magn supplements; gluten avoidance & especially dealing with chronic constipation. | Worsened By: stress / anxiety, too much sex; repressed emotions; personality goodist traits. 80% better
I must add here that many men talk of this one health problem replacing another scenario. It happened to me too.I dealt with irritable bowel syndrome for about 10 years, got that under comtrol, then went on to OCN for 7years, and then, when I finally learned how to control that, the CP started
It is essential that these men whom this applies to sort out the underlying conflict / dysfunctional ego otherwise beat chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and something else will rear it's ugly head
I havent time to say more than that now!

Worry, worry, worry, you can worry all you want, it won't do anything for you but make you miserable. When you are worried about something, take a plan of action to change things so that you don't worry about it anymore. Other than regular precautions and good decisions, there isn't much you can do about what may or may not happen to you in life (health or otherwise) other than cope with it the best you can. So don't worry about it, just tell yourself you know you are strong and can cope with whatever may come your way in life.

Its weird though I've felt so much better trying to understand things and move on. I talked to a person today and I was like "I have Prostatitis but so what it doesn't hurt now so I'm fine with it ". (He was a Dr and btw it doesn't hurt now because I've minimised the anxiety and the anxiety was largely about the mystery, feeling divorced from the mainstream, general depression and the concern that it was screwing my life seriously up) and he said "oh its a very difficult and long lasting etc" but I was like its no big deal, talk about it don't talk about it whatever. Man even a few months/weeks ago I was like "mystery condition *sob sob* I'm f**ked, every stab of pain straight to my heart" so thats a bit of a turn around (I still have the ED and I'm not entirely comfortable doing some stuff but I'm sure I'll get there).
But earlier on in the year I went to a shrink who was like, (this is before I went on this site or new much about what was going on other than it wasn't going to go away) "there's nothing wrong with you, you're totally fine". But he didn't know anything about it and was just being a smart ass. That didn't help at all. When you come to terms with it/things in your own mind you'll be fine. Each in their own way in their own time.

Yeah there were some black moments which I don't want to minimise, there must be a more efficient way to sort your life out. You new guys will get there."Wow - chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome can be the cruelest lesson in a mans life. Look if you feel sick and ignored the ego will scream out for attention. As you get better the ego will concentrate on what you're doing well and you'll feel happier. The ego isn't the enemy but your best motivator and will always attach to something."It is essential that these men whom this applies to sort out the underlying conflict / dysfunctional ego otherwise beat chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and something else will rear it's ugly head The ego if in a severe state of dysfunction needs feeding constantly."

Re: Health Anxiety
I just want to add that I totally agree with Carld.
I've always had anxiety. I also drank a lot of coffee.
But the few months before this started were the worst anxiety and health anxiety months of my life.
Between my wife and myself we had a slew of small health issues that I was a WRECK over. It was one after another.
Well, all of those petty health speedbumps that seemed like Brick walls came and went and are now barely even in the rear view, but the incredible anxiety I had over them almost certainly led to my CPPS.

Age:27 | Onset Age:27 | Symptoms: Constant urge to pee. When I drink water I can get a quick and strong stream. Sometimes it's a hesitated and weak stram. Seldom and mild ache in perineum that might only last 10 minutes. Slightly less seldom discompfort in prostate (I think). Not too bad at all. Really, the urge to pee is the only thing I care to relieve. | Helped By: relaxation, hot baths, moral support from my wife, she's awesome!... Ativan when I had it... I will be getting on it full time soon (I hope) Not quite sure yet what else. | Worsened By: Anxiety, not sure what else yet
All of my prostatitis type symptoms were gone within 3 weeks of doing what Carld has in his list.
Drop that pelvis, relax, deep breathing, "Headache in the pelvis" book..... I'm not sure why it worked so quickly for me be but I was about as terrified as anyone here that I'd have to live with it. I really feel you don't!!!! Do the protocol. Have faith.

Re: Health Anxiety
I had the exact same issue Matt. Dropped the pelvis, relaxed, meditated, got A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS, ate some Prosta, had a trigger point release physical therapy massage, and boom....barely any symptoms....2 months..now presumably cured...
Age:31 | Onset Age: 31 | Symptoms: minor lower back pain, perineum pain, rectum, testicular....I have to shake and push a lot at the end of urination, but have had to for years. My initial onset was April 3rd 2011. I had major testicle and lower back pain. It has subsided to minor. My biggest problem is pain for days after sex. | Helped By: Eating healthy, hot baths, external PT, therapy, not thinking about it..Any other suggestions? I'm a bit hesitant to do internal PT.... | Worsened By: sex, alcohol, salt intake, stress/anxiety, sitting....biggest flares come on weekends after sex/alcohol and eating wrong....I am now cured as of May 20th or so from relaxation, healthy lifestyle, no stress/anxiety, eating properly, prosta Q, fish oil, external myofascial trigger point massage and TIME. Time heals everybody....Good luck and thank you all!
