weak ejaculation and alpha blockers
weak ejaculation and alpha blockers
I have noticed that I have a weak ejaculation. Is this related to the muscle dysfunction of my LUTS condition associated with our condition? Or is it the uroxatral I have been taking for about 10 months now? Or is it a combo of both the condition of tight muscles and the medication relaxing the smooth muscles? Any thoughts and ideas to strengthen the muscles that are responsible for this function? I have a feeling this is a common problem that has to do with the muscles in the perineum that are the main source of my discomfort??? Have fun with this one......

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Alpha-blockers relax smooth muscle tissue found in the prostate and the bladder neck. This can sometimes even lead to retrograde ejaculation (ejaculate goes back into the bladder rather than out the urethra). The sensation of orgasm can be somewhat muted, therefore. Needless to say, this is reversible on cessation of treatment.
Alternatively, one of the symptoms of CP/CPPS/pelvic myoneuropathy is a lowering of libido for some men, so this too cannot be ruled out. It is also reversible on recovery.

I have the same thing... the weak ejaculation is accompanied for me by a lessening of sensation... it really sucks...I actually find I often need to ejaculate twice (one time right after the other) with the second ejaculation feeling more normal.... I'm sure it's internal-trigger-point related and all the muscles responsible for this process are taut ......

meds like Flomax and completely reduced my ejaculation,, came back full force as soon as meds stopped.
OK, too lazy to change my signature, but my sympoms have improved significantly, some went away competely. Old sig below.
Age: 27 | Onset Age: 23 | Symptoms: differ from year to year, anal/buttocks pain(especially when moving around/walking), burning when pee every once in a while, muscle tightness after peeing, sometimes but rarely burning after,, but no urgency , i pee about 4-5 times a day. Stomach bloating, hard to pass gas, occasional sharp pain in right side lower abs.
Helped By: alcohol(maybe i am wrong about this one,, helps some symtoms, possibly makes other symptoms worse), water, Beer always cures urethra pains/burning.
| Worsened By: showers, defecation, massage?, stress, winter, early spring, Snapple diet iced tea?.
Makes no difference: sitting(try putting something under back legs of your chair to tilt it slightly), masturbation(2-3 times a day usually),(update, now down to 1-2 times a day), used to ride bike without a seat on for 4 hours some days 3-4 days a week- no problem, spicy foods - no problem, 3-4 cups of black tea a day- no problem
Yeah, I get this with my alpha-blocker too. To get around it I try and time my ejaculations so that I have them just before I take my next pill. Inconvenient to say the least, but it helps and I get a stronger ejaculation for sure.
Age: 41 | Onset Age: 30 Symptoms Initially: Urine frequency, Rectal Pain, Bladder Pain, Penile Pain, Numb Inner Thigh Pain, Constipation, Fever. Symptoms now: None | Helped By: Resolution of phimosis /Elavil, Stretches. Worsened By: Stress Stress Stress!

I take my Flomax just before going to sleep. It takes time for the body to absorb it. It has maximum effect 4 hrs later. If I need to ejaculate, I do it right after taking the Flomax. I don't have a problem ejaculating when doing this although it is not 100% intense as it would be with no alpha blocker at all.
Age 43: Onset June 2005, Initially: perineal pain, discomfort in penis, very sensitive, sometimes burning. Red around the urethra on penis. Increased urination during night, problems with stream, sometimes constant urge to urinate. Exercise and moving around and laying down helps. Sitting down and squatting makes it worse. Improved to about 85-95%. Symptoms usually mild pain near belly button and slight urge to urinate.
Thanks for the input guys.
Does any one know if it's OK to experiment by stopping and going back on if needed? Maybe Webslave or some one can help answere this w/ out me calling my Uro to ask Him?

I wouldn't go on and off at full dosage. The first few doses of a-blockers are quite dangerous, especially if you drive a car (and who doesn't these days?) When I tried them years ago, I oh-so-nearly had an accident. Titrate down before you stop, and titrate up again when you start.

Ya I know what you mean Mark, a month ago I stopped for a week and noticed some symptoms returning. I take my Uroxatral at night and decided to start up again after lunch and I was wasted about and hour after that. So I know that for sure. You adjust after that and it's no big deal. I did not take one last night and after reading the positive research post you put up and the very few side effects I feel, I think I will stick with it and consider it a missed dose.webslave wrote:I wouldn't go on and off at full dosage. Well I have now been off uroxatral for 10 days now and my urine stream is still strong so long as I'm relaxed. I really think I'm emptying my bladder and feel quite good about stopping. So I wanted to share this with all of you. I feel that this is going to last as well. As far as the irrative nature and frequent urination, uroxatral did not help with those symptoms. So one less drug I have to take:-D
