Just a little help - constipation
Just a little help - constipation
Just a quick one really for those in the know;
Since giving up wheat I have had problems with constipation that I havent had for ages. The rectal spasms I havent had since 2005 have returned too. I know this is becasue my muscles are tight. Regular bowel movements previously kept this rectal tightness at bay. Incidently a bad bout of constipation preceded my initial chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome attack.
I know fennel seeds help with bowel movements / regularity. Anyone know of any food product that will help as I now dont eat brown bread which I assume helped due to the fibre?
Obviously stretching / the SP help with rectal pain & spasms too
Thanks
greg

Take some stool softeners, eat fruit. That should help.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times,poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I second that, and I would add a Magnesium supplement, that stuff really helps.rider fan wrote:Use a fiber supplement like Metamucil, eat fruit and veggies and whole grains

Yup Metamucil is great for constipation. GP2, you are in the UK like me.... I found Metamucil tough to get, but you can get something called Colon Care + from Holland and Barrett which is essentially the same thing. It's Psyllium Husk Powder and is mixed with water. It certainly does the trick when I need to get more regular.

Just get psyllium husk (thats what Metamucil is mainly made of) and sprinkle two - three teaspoons onto your breakfast cereal every morning. You should be able to find it at your local supermarket.
Age 43: Onset June 2005, Initially: perineal pain, discomfort in penis, very sensitive, sometimes burning. Red around the urethra on penis. Increased urination during night, problems with stream, sometimes constant urge to urinate. Exercise and moving around and laying down helps. Sitting down and squatting makes it worse. Improved to about 85-95%. Symptoms usually mild pain near belly button and slight urge to urinate.
Thanks guys.
The rectal spasms are gone & I'm going more frequently and without difficulty. I had slipped on taking my magnesium supplements (thanks for the reminder Scooby). Fennel tea helps too!

GP2,
FiberCare tablets can be taken with no water, before bed. Those are good. As is the Natural Calm Magnesium supplement. AND VSL#3 is great for digestion. It's a high-concentration of yogurt cultures. Woks like a charm.

Yeah, magnesium helps with the spasms.
I am basically at 100% now. And even though I don't even get sore from sitting for 8 hours a day, I still find that on occasion, my rectal muscles aren't fully cooperative. Keeping your stool soft will help deal with that and avoid the unpleasantness that constipation plus chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome affords.
My own personal recommendation to end constipation is:
1) Plums
2) Haunted Houses

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.
