Long story short - I went on a road trip out to the country and had a severe allergic reaction to pollen. My face and eyes swelled up so bad that my wife and her relatives demanded I take Benadryl - about 100 mgs over the span of 7-8 hours. I went to the ER and they gave me a shot of prednisone (I think). On top of this, I was constipated for 3 straight days in which I drove 12 hours in a 36 hour timeframe.
So, 6 days later (today) I have that damn burn back and I can't help but think the Benadryl is the reason. Constipation gives me flares but not quite like this one.
Any suggestions? Will this burn out on its own in time? Sure hope so. The past week has reminded me too much of the "old days"....oh, how I shiver at those days.
Thanks in advance.

Age: 41. Onset: 28. Symptoms: perineum burn and urinary. Musts: donut cushion and stay unconstipated.
Benadryl
Thanks.
I didn't notice any problems until a few days after I took the Benadryl. Now I wish I would've never taken it. But at the time everybody was worried I'd die from the allergic reaction.
Hmmm. Death or CP flare up? Let me think about that one for a sec...vbg.
I feel a little better today. I took some stool softeners as my constipation has been a problem ever since the trip. Seems like my prostate felt worse after a hard BM.
Still, it sucks. My wife has only heard tale of my "CP days". Luckily she is in medicine and really feels for me. She said this morning that she "can't imagine" how I deal with it all the time. I'm just pissed because Satan broke his deal with me (I made a deal with the Devil just to allow my symptoms to stay at a "merely annoying" level many years ago).
Dramamine has the same "prostate warning" and I never have any problems when I take it. Why would Benadryl be any different? Thanks.

There's different types of Benadryl but the one that works for me without impacting on my symptoms is the Benadryl (Acrivastine) variety. It's not a one-a-day type (only last up to 8 hours) but very chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome friendly.

Benadryl
Well, like I said - I had no choice at the time, seemingly. My eyes were swollen shut within minutes of my first symptoms (i.e. hives, welts on my face and neck). I was an hour at least from the nearest hospital. My wife made me take them. I knew it could effect my prostate but I was frightened, quite honestly. When I was a kid I was stung by a bee on my ear and required a shot of norepenephrine (so I'm told). So, I did what I thought was right at the time.
Now I'm left with that damn burning sensation. If it doesn't go away on its own in a few days, I'll have to buy some any accredited quercetin product or maybe even this Quercetin stuff which I have never heard of until now.
Oh well. I lived two years in misery with CP and it burnt itself out somewhat. This flare isn't as bad as that one (knock knock) so I assume it will burn itself out too. Just thought I'd stop by to see if anything new was out there I could try.
In the meantime I will keep my head up. I wish I could go back in time and not take the damn Benadryl.

Constipation is a common side effect of prednisone.Rhemium wrote:I went to the ER and they gave me a shot of prednisone (I think). On top of this, I was constipated for 3 straight days in which I drove 12 hours in a 36 hour timeframe.
