Fear of incontinence

Post by accipiter »

I know that anxiety and fear can only make chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome worse, but lately I have been fearing that my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome will make me incontinent. I guess it stems primarily from just having frequent urges to urinate and the inability to empty my bladder.

I've struggled with anxiety all my life in addition to obsessing about silly things, and I guess this is just another bout of it that I will have to beat. has anyone had any similar experiences or suggestions for beating this type of catastrophic thinking?

Many thanks

Your description of yourself is very typical of sufferers of this disorder. Key words: anxiety, obsessions, catastrophic thinking.

To reassure you, I have never heard of incontinence as a consequence of CP/CPPS aka pelvic myoneuropathy.

That you so much for your response. Like many of my anxieties, I know they are silly, it is just hard to keep the thoughts from spiraling out of control.

Urge to urinate

Post by gifford »

I also wonder about incontinence eventually..
I am not incontinent now.. I can hold off urinating but I feel like I have a constant urge to urinate even after I do.Very discomforting.
My PT has and valium has needed has reduced my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain to a near zero level but the felling that I need to urinate all the time is there all the time. I try to ignore it but it is very hard. Staying busy and focusing on other things helps but not a whole lot..
Not sure if you or others have this problem or not.
I would like to know.

That urge is what used to bother me all the time, even when I could control for hours. Lately, I have been able to manage it with breathing exercises. Does anyone have suggestions on if there are any breathing exercises one can do to control this urge. For me I start getting it like 10 min after urination, eventually it wanes off. I think deep breathing so as to fill the pelvic area with air helps..
34 yr consultant, suffering from intermittently past 2 yrs. Tried various prostate supplements, symptoms relieved by ejaculation.
Symptoms- pain at tip and base of penis, urge to urinate (can hold off for hrs), dribbling at end of urination

I don`t fear incontinence as much as I fear the bladder exploding. One of the things that standout for me as to being a clencher of the pelvic muscles is the inability to pee in public. I must have a locked booth in order to go. If I don`t get a comfortable place I don`t know what will happen... It probably comes from me being very late through puberty and very aware of protecting my scrotum from exposure. Looking back it just seems silly, but somehow it sticks with me. And being that it probably is the ground pillars on which my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome was built. It`s just such a waste. :x
