you can't ignore the adductors

Post by boudreaux »

I just want to encourage you guys out there that are really into using the Theracane and getting after your trigger points. You simply cannot have a fully released pelvic floor if your adductor/inner thigh muscles remain tight and knotted with trigger points. Especially if you have rectal pain, tightness and fullness, learn how to hook the Theracane against that main, tough big adductor right against your sitbone. I sit on the edge of my bed, hook the Theracane tight under my leg right where the adductor inserts into the sitbone, then pull up -- you can really exert some leverage.

Sometimes with this move, it's strange, you won't get pain referred into the pelvis but will actually get relief, like your pelvis and rectum just go empty and feel nice and relaxed.

I have had my massage therapist really work the insides of my leg all the way to my knee--I'm lucky because most massage therapists won't or don't know how to do this. But I'm telling you, internal therapy is twice as effective if you loosen up your inner legs, because the pelvic floor is able to fully expand and release due to the newly gained flexibility in your upper legs. Study the Davies book.

My thoughts are always with everyone on this board. Pelvic pain does not define you.

I agree. I make sure my adductors are stretched out in each stretching session I do.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.
