It's interesting that so many of us got the same path to CPPS.

I too did over-masturbate some years ago. I too got an epydidimitis first (which was not an infection, that's for sure). Then I too got the start of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome 2 years after that. It seems that over-masturbating in front of computer for hours is a clear trigger for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for many of us.

And now with a few years of being more adult, I am certain that these sessions are a way to cope/hide our anxiety/bad feelings with ourselves. I know that back in those days, I was not well with myself, and had a bad familial situation (both my parents ill, then my father died etc ...). More important for explaining my habits, I was _very_ shy and didn't got girls. All of these resulted in extensive masturbation sessions.

Now, a few years latter, I know I suffer because of this bad way of coping with anxiety back then. But, in my case at least, I know that besides having to do the usual relaxation/TP/strechting protocol, I have to learn the lesson : one should not keep his anxiety for himself, for this results in inner tension and bad life habits. And that hurts the body, as many of us here can tell.

This chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (at least the version I have : extensive sessions leading to muscles strain/damages) definitivly has something to do with anxiety, not like uro think ("it's in your head"), but more like containing your anxiety within yourself will hurt you from the inside. Learning to cope with anxiety is not a way to cure (TP and relaxation are the way to go), but a way to avoid all kind of troubles that appears only years latter.

I've read many people saying that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome means you need to rethink your life, and I definitivly agree with that. However, I think this is very positive : you need to live better, and not to reduce your expectation from life. This CPPS, while a hell to have, is also positive : it's a lesson to learn.

Well that doesn't change the fact that I am very eager to have my symptoms disappear :)

This is a great thread.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

I wish I had better news but my conditions have not really improved that much although I am getting wiser to what helps and what irratates. Maybe for now thats ok. My non improvement could be partly my fault and I'll give you all a quick update on what I've been doing. First thing you should know about me is I AN INCREDIBLY LAZY! Which is weird because I hate lazy people. What I'm leading up too is that perhaps I haven't been doing all I can but I have been doing a little.

So, I have officially relocated to raleigh, nc. I contacted Dr. Wise upon purchasing his book to see if he could refer me to a PT in the area. Of course he wanted me to fly out to Stanford and unfortunately that just isn't an option for me. So I have only been doing the stretches the last 2 weeks, they seem to work but only temporarily. I try to do them 2-3 times a day. I did 3 months of any accredited quercetin product and 3 months of any accredited quercetin product and for me that turned out to be a waste of money. I didn't notice any difference but, this is not to say that it may not be helping you. So if you believe it is helping you, stick with it.

Over the last few months I've noticed a few things, I do indeed tend to go through the day with my butt and pelvis muscles all clentched up like a tight fist and have to keep reminding myself to relax them. I swear I'm going to write a pc programming that reminds me to check my butt every 20 minutes and get up and walk every hour! Another note: if I take .25 of lorazepam heading out the door in the morning I do not clench these muscles. ANXIETY? or just the way I go through life at this stage. Either case lorazepam is not the answer and I'm almost out!

If I'm in pain, going for a walk helps relieve it. Swimming, just treading water for a few minutes will often relieve my pain for the rest of the day but the pool closed 2 months ago. What else. Oh I saw a Dr. down here to see if A.) He could refer me to a PT and B.) He could give me something for pain and anxiety until I'm through this. He looked at me like I was one of these vicoden junkies and told me I needed a pain management doctor. Pissed me off because honestly I only take pain meds about twice a month and anxiety meds about once a week. basterd.

I am still wearing a jock everyday, I own 7 now, one for everyday of the week and I don't dare go without it. My perineum pain is all but gon now but god my nuts ache. Sometimes sharp pain and always the dull ache. Sex performance remains the same as stated above except I am in discomfort for just one day now as oppossed to 3. I am trying hard to give up on masturbation and internet porn but geez its not easy.

Lastly and almost out of desperation I started seeing a chiropractor last week. He is working on my psoas muscles to try and make them longer. Says they very taught and will attribute to the testicular pain. Also receiving electrical massage/therapy on the low back and pelvic traction. I'll keep you posted on this. Oh and I bought a special seat cushion which when you sit on it keeps you from putting pressure on your tailbone. This in itself has helped and my butt has not gone numb in a week!

Will post again soon!
Age: 41. Symptoms: Testicular Pain, Perineum, Erectile Dysfunction, Premature Ejaculation, Frequency and Dribbling. Helped by: Lorazepam for anxiety, Ultram or Vicodin (if I can get it) for pain, Athletic Supporter (Jock). Makes worse: Hot bathes or showers or anything that causes my testes to hang too low. If I ejaculate I can count on 3 days of steady pain to follow.

iHurt, I actually see a lot of positives in your update. You've made some good lifestyle changes, and are getting in tune with your body. Those are good steps. Don't worry if the stretches aren't helping yet. First you have to stretch out the muscles, which could take weeks or months. At this point, the muscles now have better blood flow and they can start healing. So stick with it and hopefully in 3 months of serious stretching, you'll see results. Also, for testicular pain (my worst pain symptom), check out your abdominal muscles. If you have a Theracane, work your abs hard. I get a lot of referred pain to the testicles from this region, and only after working it for a few months did my testicular pain lessen.

Even if you can't get to Stanford (most of us can't, including me - and I live 90 minutes away!), you can still do a lot on your own. Do external trigger point therapy as often as you can. And if you have to, do the internal work yourself. Don't let your situation prevent you from taking charge of things.
