new to forum and in pain

Post by hotbot »

Greetings and I am a first timer so please be gentle!! Just kidding!
I have been in pain for about 6 months and have undergone a 10 day Cipro, (Symptoms lessen but do not go away), then a 30 day Cipro treatment (Same result), and I just finished 2 months of Sulfa - something. I do not feel any different than I did 6 months ago. My GP prescribed the first Cipro which was one tablet a day for 10 days. After getting no permanent relief I then went to a Urologist and he put me on the two a day Cipro. Again, it feels like it is starting to work and then bang, the pain is back. As I was taking the Sulfa-something for two months the pain has always been there and I had just a brief window of relief, maybe three days about a week after starting the two a days! I have an appointment with the Urologist at 1 pm today, what should I ask him? What is going on with my hot bottom?

Antibiotics have anti inflamatory properties which may be the effect you are seeing. Long term they cause SERIOUS problems.

See the best posts section.

Not a Dr. Not medical advice.

You fit the time frame for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (> 6MO), but you don't describe any of your symptoms, so I wouldn't even want to comment about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in your case until I heard more. But I just want to point out that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a condition that waxes and wanes hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, and therefore any improvements or worsenings you experienced on antibiotics may be nothing more than the general course of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain. Some antibiotics do have anti-inflammatory properties (as was mentioned above), so that's worth keeping in mind to.

Why don't you respond by describing your symptoms and what you have been doing to help yourself. A lot of people here may have the same symptoms as you, so you'll get better response if you detail your story a bit.

Also check out the home page information for new viewers, and read through some posts, and let us know how much applies to you.

My symptoms WERE as follows:
Started with pain in the tip of the penis
Then felt VERY hot in prostate area(Felt like I was sitting on a hot golf ball)
Pain would transfer to the right buttock and down the right leg
Painful urethra after ejaculation
Very frequent urination often with burning

I went to my Urologist yesterday (again) and now he says that my current symptoms do not mirror protatitis. I have no more frequent urination problems or pain in the penis or a hot feelin in the prostate. My pain and discomfort is now in the anal area with pain shooting to the right buttock and down the right leg. He did not know what to tell me other than get a donut to sit on and see about having a colonoscopy done!
Any ideas fellow sufferers??

Often it is very difficult to find a urologist who truly understands CPPS. Most dismiss you because they truly do not know what to do. I think you should find another urologist who accepts chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and is sympathic to it. You may want to write Dr. Wise and ask if he knows of anyone in your area.

I have been having a really bad flair up recently, the first one in over 10 years. My regular doctor gave me two weeks of Cipro, then I asked to see a uroligist because there was no noticible improvement. The uroligist after checking me out basically said there is not much he can do except pain meds and gave me some samples of uroxatral..alfa blocker. He is aware and admits that it could be nerve, muscle related but offered no treatment. He just basically said they do not know how it is gotten or how to treat it. He did say he does not see much chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in men in their 60's. He thinks it burns itself out. Not so easy to just wait though.

hotbot, you have a lot of the common symptoms of CPPS. Sometimes, a single symptom or two by themselves would suggest other possible conditions, but the preponderance of common symptoms you have leads me to think you are a chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome patient (if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, as they say). But I can't say for sure since I am not a doctor. :)

But seriously, read the new to this site page, and read a lot of posts. You may be experiencing muscle-related pain that can be readily treated.
